Hey Bestie Paper Fortune Teller
Add more giggles to playtime with a Hey Bestie paper fortune teller! We’ve prepared two versions of this retro kids’ game for your child and their besties to enjoy. In the first, you’ll find loads of sweet activities. And in the second, you decide! Print, fold, write, and play – it’s easy as 1-2-3!
What’s a Fortune Teller?
The fortune teller game has been around for many, many years. Also known as a cootie catcher – or, in our case – a Kindness Catcher, it’s an interactive form of origami that kids use to tell each other’s fortunes.
On the outside are colors, symbols, or numbers that players pick to reveal the fortunes that are written inside. And anything from silly predictions to funny jokes can be written as fortunes! All it takes to make this classic game is a sheet of paper, some colors, and a bright imagination.
How to Make a Paper Fortune Teller
Cut out the square.
Flip the square over.
Fold the bottom left corner to touch the top right corner.
Unfold.
Fold the bottom right corner to touch the top left corner.
Unfold.
Fold all four corners toward the center.
Keep the folds together and flip over.
Fold all four corners toward the center once again.
Fold in half and pop open.
How to Play with a Fortune Teller
Once you’ve created your paper fortune teller, you can play the game! Use both your hands to hold the catcher, placing your fingers in the pockets. Then, present the catcher to a Bestie and ask them to choose a symbol on the top.
Spell out the symbol they chose while opening and closing the Kindness Catcher. So, if your Bestie picked Star, you say “S-T-A-R” working the catcher back and forth with each letter – a total of 4 times.
Keeping the paper fortune teller open, ask your Bestie to pick one of the numbers inside. Then, repeat the same thing you did with the symbol. If they picked 3, work the catcher back and forth that many times.
Finish by asking your Bestie to choose a final number and reveal the fortune inside!
Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Place both thumbs and index fingers inside the bottom pockets of the kindness catcher. Then, present the kindness catcher to your Bestie.
Ask your Bestie to pick a symbol. Spell out the word, saying each letter aloud, while alternating a pinching and pulling motion with your fingers to reveal a set of four numbers.
Your Bestie picks a number. Pinch and pull with your fingers that many times to reveal a second set of numbers.
Your Bestie picks another number. Open its flap to reveal the activity inside!
