Kids’ Activities for Best Friends Day

What would life be like without our besties? From playing schoolyard games to helping us through life’s toughest moments, our friends are there for us through it all. Thanks to them, we’re happier, healthier people who feel like we belong!

As you might guess, Best Friends Day is one of our favorite holidays at Hey Bestie. Celebrated on June 8th, it’s a time to cherish those closest to us. And it should be celebrated at every age! Best Friends Day is a wonderful opportunity to teach your child to appreciate their friendships and to show them how to be a good friend.

Here are 5 Best Friends Day activities to get you inspired!

Plan a Picnic at the Park

Here comes the sun—and snacks!

A good old-fashioned picnic is the perfect way for kids to bond. Simple yet out of the ordinary, they encourage both meaningful conversations and physical activity in a natural setting. Fresh air, goodies, and games are the perfect ingredients for Best Friends Day. You’ll make lasting memories!

In the yard or at the park, throw a blanket on the ground and serve a basket of shareable bites. It is Best Friends’ Day, after all! Hey Bestie dolls Millie & Hannah love tea party foods like cucumber sandwiches cut into quarters. Add berries, veggies, and juice boxes, and you’re all set for snacks!

As for games, why not try a three-legged race? You could also have a go at duck-duck-goose, What Time is it Mr. Wolf, or freeze tag if you’ve got a larger group of besties. Psst—set up a bubble machine for extra giggles! No matter how the kids play, all that matters is that they have a good time together.

Make Personalized Crafts

Crafting is a great way for besties to spend the afternoon! Kids will get their creative juices flowing and express their individuality with some artistic, screen-free fun. Plus, whatever they make will be 100% unique—just like their friendship.

For Best Friends’ Day, try making friendship bracelets or beaded jewelry! All it takes is a trip to the craft store. Grab a friendship bracelet kit or some jewelry wire, beads, and clasps, then let the kids go to town. You can also get keychain lobsters, so the kids can sport homemade charms on their bags!

Since this day is all about friendship, encourage your child to make a gift for their friend. What’s great about making jewelry is that the besties’ creations are super personalized. Plus, they’re wearable keepsakes they can treasure for many days to come!

Have a Slumber Party

What better way to celebrate best friends than with a slumber party?! Sleepovers are magical for kids of all ages. Just think: they get to play together all day, then play again first thing in the morning! It’s giggles all around the clock.

Before you get overwhelmed, though, remember to keep things simple. Prepare for your guest ahead of time and communicate with their parents about bedtimes, allergies, and other expectations.

Plan a simple meal and dedicate a safe space in your home for the besties to spend the night. As for activities, don’t overthink it. Set aside an activity or two, like temporary tattoos, coloring pages, or Hey Bestie’s Kindness Catcher. Just in case the kids need it!

The more you can prep for a sleepover, the better!

Take a Mini Vacay

So, your kiddo and their best friend have had a million playdates, already. What if you went somewhere special? You could head to the beach, ride terrific rollercoasters, or be tourists in your own town!

(Trust me, your little one will thank you for this!)

A little day trip goes a looong way in making memories. So, the next time you plan to go on a family excursion, consider inviting your child’s best friend to come along! With a bestie, you might even find that your trip is easier. Friends keep each other engaged, making them less likely to bug their siblings or beg their parents for attention.
