Jasmine & Makayla’s Bumpy Ride

Welcome to the wonderful world of Hey Bestie! In this story for kids, our Hey Bestie dolls Jasmine & Makayla embark on an unforgettable journey to the Grand Canyon. There are many twists and turns on the road, however. Will the Besties reach their destination on time? Let’s find out!
“Ready to hit the road, Bestie?” Jasmine asked.
“I was born ready!” Makayla replied.
It was spring break in Bestieville, and our travel experts—Jasmine and Makayla—had planned a road trip to the Grand Canyon. They would travel all day in their pink convertible, rolling past lush green fields and into the sandy, red desert where the Canyon waited. It was going to be epic!
Makayla opened the trunk of the Rosy Roadster and tossed her pink suitcase inside, while Jasmine sat down in the driver’s seat.
“Selfie!” Jasmine cried as she pulled out her phone. Makayla tip-toed excitedly to the seat next to her, and together they struck a pose. A perfect start to any trip!
Jasmine started the car, Makayla turned on the radio, and off they went toward the Grand Canyon.

Jasmine and Makayla spent the first few hours of their trip playing I Spy.
“Your turn!” said Makayla with a big smile.
“Ok!” said Jasmine. “I spy with my little eye, something that is… uh-oh!”
Jasmine noticed that the Rosy Roadster was quickly running out of gas. They’d have to stop soon, or they’d be stuck in the desert alone!
Makayla craned her neck to get a better view of the wilderness around them. “Something that is uh-oh?” she wondered. “Hmm…”
“We’re almost out of gas, silly!” Jasmine cried. “We’ll need to make a detour.”
“Oh, no!” Makayla’s eyes widened. “Let’s stop at the nearest town, then. It shouldn’t take us very long to gas up!”
“I hope not!” Jasmine worried. “I want to see the Grand Canyon.”
The Besties drove off the freeway as soon as they could and entered a small desert town.

“This place is cute!” said Makayla.
“Is that what I think it is?!” Jasmine exclaimed.
Western-style restaurants and fun little shops lined the streets of the town, where—right in the middle of it—there stood the giant statue of a dinosaur.
“Whoa! We have got to check this out!” said Makayla, who quickly started taking pictures from inside the car.
As it turned out, there was a dinosaur park in town! So, Jasmine and Makayla extended their little detour.
Their quick stop for gas turned into an awesome visit to the Jurassic era. From little raptors to big Brontosaurus, the Besties got to see statues of all their fossilized friends! They learned that dinosaurs had once roamed the same desert, many years ago.

Back on the road, with a tank full of gas and their minds full of wonder, Jasmine and Makayla spent the next little while singing songs. They whizzed past exotic cacti, desert reptiles, and big rock formations that scraped the sky.
Jasmine began to belt out another tune, when, suddenly, the radio went static. The music stopped.
“Aww,” Jasmine moaned. “We must be too far into the desert to get any music.”
“And there goes the GPS!” cried Makayla. She gasped. “We’re out of snacks, too!”
“Alright, another detour it is!” Jasmine took the next exit so the girls could find some food.
Driving down country roads, they took a left, then a right, then another right. When, finally, the Besties came across a beautiful ranch. A colorful food stall was at the front gate.
“One plate of tacos and a pineapple drink, please—” Makayla was about to finish ordering when she realized something. The server at the stall was Charlie, a Bestie from Bestieville!
“Hi Charlie!!” Jasmine and Makayla said excitedly.
“Hi Jas! Hi Makayla!” Charlie hopped out of the stall and gave her Besties a hug.
“What are you doing here?!” asked Jasmine.
Charlie was visiting family over spring break. They own a big ranch where Charlie’s horse, Daisy, can gallop with her desert horse friends. What a lovely coincidence!

Together, the Besties shared a lovely meal.
“They don’t make tacos like these back in Bestieville!” said Makayla. “Yummy!”
When it was time to get back on the road, though, Jasmine couldn’t remember the way back to the freeway.
“Oh, shoot!” said Jasmine. “Now we’ll definitely be late to the Grand Canyon. We have to get there before sundown!”
“Do you need a map?” asked Charlie.
Jasmine and Makayla were unsure. “We’d love a map, but we’ve never used one before,” Makayla admitted.

Charlie’s eyes brightened. “That’s OK!” she said. “I’ll show you how!”
Charlie gave her Besties a map of the desert and used a pen to give them directions. Charlie was an expert at maps and loved to show travelers their way around. She even showed them other cool places to visit on their way to the Grand Canyon!
“Thanks, Bestie!” Jasmine was relieved.
Makayla snapped more pictures to remember the occasion. She and Jasmine had met an old friend, they learned more cool stuff, and they were excited to find more hidden gems during their travels. What a trip this was so far!

Jasmine and Makayla’s road trip became quite the adventure. They made a quick little stop for ice cream, they gazed at a waterfall, and they checked out a mini museum—when it came time to really get going.
“Final stretch!” Makayla cheered as she took a sip from her pineapple drink. “We’ll be at the Grand Canyon in no time.”
Jasmine started the car when, suddenly, the Rosy Roadster made a dreadful tapping sound. Tap-tap-tap-tap!
“Oh no,” Makayla’s face dropped. They’d be late to the Canyon if something else came up. “What is it this time?”
The Besties stopped the pink convertible so they could find what was causing the noise.
Jasmine opened the hood of the car and there it was: a pair of sunglasses was wedged inside the engine. “How did that get there?!” she cried in disbelief.
The Besties burst out laughing. It was just another fork in the road!

“Look, Makayla! There it is!”
“Wow!”
Finally, after a long day of travel, Jasmine and Makayla arrived at the Grand Canyon. They quickly got out of the Rosy Roadster and stood together to marvel at the valley’s natural beauty. And what a tremendous sight it was.
Our Besties got there later than they had planned, and there were a few bumps in the road, but their trip was unforgettable. In the end, they made it just in time—because the sunset over the Canyon was the most beautiful sight they had ever seen.
