How to make a scavenger hunt
Ready to make your own scavenger hunt? You’re in for a treat!
All you need to do for a simple scavenger hunt is to write or draw a list of things you want your kiddo to find. Depending on the theme, create a fun mix of objects such as foods, wildlife, and household items
Implement a variety of colors, textures, and visuals. And, as always, keep safety in mind! Avoid anything like crossing a road or that would be hazardous unless under direct supervision.
Want a little more challenge? Use time limits, add quantities, and write clues or riddles instead of giving the items away. This last tip is useful for older kids who might finish the scavenger hunt a little too quickly. Plus, it adds a little mystery—something that could be fun for a spooky scavenger hunt!
Use the blank version we provided to make your own scavenger hunt!
Why scavenger hunts are great for kids
Scavenger hunts add a little pumpkin spice to regular-degular weekends. With just a simple list of things to find, this activity can turn any day into an event. An easy walk around the neighborhood, a playdate in the backyard, a long car ride, or even a quick trip to the grocery store can become an exciting adventure!
In addition to the excitement, kids’ scavenger hunts encourage young kids to explore and to be physically active. Everyday objects are seen through a new lens, and for some kids, it may be their first time seeing them! Have they ever found a mushroom in the forest? How about a spotted toad?
At the end of the day, scavenger hunts help us appreciate the little things we have around us. We are surrounded by a million little treasures, all the time—you just need to look for ’em!
