Bella & Nicole’s Halloween Haunt
Are you in the moood for a spoooky story? Get ready for a Halloween haunt!
In this terrifying tale, Hey Bestie dolls Bella & Nicole are tasked with house sitting a big, old manor on the edge of Bestieville. There’s a storm a’brewing, the power is out, and something isn’t quite right. Could the house be haunted? Let’s find out!

Bella shivered as she zipped up her varsity jacket. “It’s cold out tonight,” she said. “Why are we going out, again?”
It was a chilly fall evening in Bestieville. A strong wind blew, rustling the red and orange leaves in the trees. Four besties, Bella & Nicole, along with Isa & Evie, walked together through the darkened town. A thunderstorm was sure to come later that night.
Nicole gave her besties a reassuring look. “We’re house sitting for my great-aunt Bernice, remember? I need to water her plants and feed her cat.”
“Okay,” Bella sighed. “Let’s hurry, though—I worry we’ll get rained on!”
“Or worse!” Isa teased. “It is spooky season, after all. You never know what could happen!”
Together, they all walked along the streets of Bestieville, past the Hugs & Mugs Cafe and the Lush & Lovely Hair Salon. They walked past creepy Halloween decorations and into the quieter part of town, where winding lanes lead into the countryside.
Finally, they reached a big country house surrounded by grassy fields. No lights were on, so it was hard for the girls to see clearly.
“This is the place,” said Nicole.
BOOOM!

Suddenly, a wild crack of thunder echoed through the air, making the girls jump right out of their shoes.
“Hurry!” Bella cried. “Get us inside, Nicole!”
Nicole took out her great-aunt’s key and unlocked the front door. Quickly, the Besties stepped inside. When Nicole tried to flip the nearest light switch, however, the lights would not turn on.
Evie gasped. “Oh, no! Did the power go out?”
“Looks like it!” said Nicole.
Isa trembled. “This place really is haunted!” she cried.
“We’re all alone in the dark!” Isa whimpered.
“The house isn’t haunted,” said Nicole, shaking her head. “The power must have gone out because of the storm.”
She then pulled a flashlight out of her pocket and turned it on, illuminating the front room. “I should still check on my aunt’s cat, though… Let’s see if we can still find her!”

“You want us to search this big house in the dark?” Evie asked Nicole in disbelief.
“Think of the poor kitty,” Isa said to her bestie. “Nicole’s right, we should find her and make sure she’s okay.”
“Thanks, Isa,” said Nicole. “I promised my great aunt that I would take care of her house—and I’m a girl of her word.”
“You’re both so brave,” said Bella, holding onto Evie who was equally spooked.
The Besties huddled closely together and began their search for Bernice’s cat. They tip toed from one room to the next, using Nicole’s flashlight to see through the dark.
Everything looked creepier than it would normally—from the grand piano in the living room to the portraits hanging in the hallway. Long shadows stretched out from where the flashlight shone, and with each step, the floors creaked.
“I don’t like this,” said Evie. “If I were your aunt’s cat, I’d be hiding too.”
The Besties turned a corner when they heard a strange and scary sound that stopped them in their tracks.
“Wooooooooooo!!”
Something howled into the night.
“A GHOST!” Isa cried.
“Did that come from inside the house?!” asked Bella.
Once again, the phantom howled from the dark.
“Wooooooooooo!”
“I don’t like this,” Evie repeated, her hands clutching Nicole’s sweater. “I don’t like this one bit!”
Nicole’s eyes widened. She was getting a little scared, too. “M-maybe it’s the wind!” she said. “There’s no way my great aunt’s house is haunted.”
The girls continued their search.

The Besties explored the main floor for what felt like an eternity, when it was time to choose between going upstairs or down.
“I say we go upstairs,” Nicole whispered, her flashlight pointing up the wooden staircase.
“Are you crazy?” Bella replied. “We should go to the basement.”
“Are you crazy?” said Evie. “I’m not going down there!”
Isa nodded. “Basements are where monsters hide,” she said.
CRASH!
Something from across the home shattered, like a dinner plate or a drinking glass had fallen to the floor.
The girls screamed and ran up the stairs as quickly as they could. Holding hands, they found the nearest room they could and shut the door.
“There’s something in the h-h-house,” Isa cried.
“I’m so scared!” said Evie.
Nicole flashed her light around the room. “This is it!” she said.
“You found the cat?” Bella sighed with relief.
“No, but this is where the plants are.” said Nicole. “I need to water them.”

Bella covered her face with her palm. “I don’t know how you aren’t scared,” she said.

The Besties found themselves in a beautiful sitting room full of exotic plants, wooden bookshelves, and comfortable lounge chairs. Outside, the wind howled, and rain began to pour. Thunder shook the building.
Bella, Isa, and Evie huddled together while Nicole searched the room for a watering can. When out of the blue, something beat against the door.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Its claws scratched into the wood over and over, making a terrifying sound that made the girls freeze into place.
“It’s come to get us!” Evie panicked. “It’s the ghost!”
BAM! BAM! BAM!
“What do we do, Nicole?” asked Bella.
Suddenly, the creature stopped scratching, and the Besties could hear it sniff. Then, it made a gentle whimpering sound.
Isa furrowed her brows. “That’s not a ghost, but it’s not the cat either,” she said.
With all the bravery she could muster, Nicole opened the door. There, in the hallway, stood two puppies with wagging tails. They wanted nothing more than to say hello.

Relieved, Bella & Nicole and Isa & Evie welcomed the pups. Everyone felt so much better knowing that there was no ghost in the house, only dogs!

“I wonder where these pups came from,” said Nicole. “My great aunt doesn’t have any dogs.”
The puppies walked down the hall and toward the stairs. They looked back at the girls like they wanted them to follow.
“Where are they going?” asked Evie. “What do you want to show us, little pups?”
The Besties followed the pups cautiously and walked carefully down the stairs in the dark.
Once at the bottom, lightning flashed from outside—BOOOM—and the dark silhouette of a human person stood right in front of them!
“AAAAAAH!” The Besties screamed.
When just like that, all the lights turned on. There before them was no ghost. It was Nicole’s great aunt Bernice, holding her cat in her arms!
“Hi, girls!” Bernice said warmly. “Spooked you, did I?”

“Aunt Bernice!” cried Nicole. “What are you doing home?”
“My flight was cancelled because of the storm.” Nicole’s great aunt smiled sheepishly. “I came back from the airport not too long ago. And these puppies were outside looking sad—I thought I’d take care of them until I find them forever homes! I’d keep them, but I’m not sure how well they’d get along with Miss Whiskers, here.”
Bernice released her cat and bent down to pet one of the puppies. It licked her cheek. “Silly little troublemakers! I’m sorry we scared you.”
“We weren’t scared,” Evie said, which made all the girls laugh.
Isa snuggled up with the pups. “You’re just the cutest. I could love you forever,” she said to the dogs, as they jumped and climbed all over her.
This gave Aunt Bernice an idea. “Isa, Evie, what would you two think of fostering some pups?”
The girls both squealed with delight.
“I’ve always wanted a pet,” Evie admitted.
“You and I could take one each and they’d be besties forever!” Isa gushed.
“They could come trick-or-treating with us,” said Bella. “They’re so cute, I’m sure we’ll get some extra candy!” said Bella.
“Wonderful!” Bernice exclaimed. “Thank you, girls, for all your help. I’ll be home as always. And be sure to stop by on Halloween! I’ll have lots of special treats for you and the pups!”
