When is Friendship Day?
In the United States, National Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of every August. International Friendship Day occurs on July 30.
Why are there two Friendship Days, you may ask? At the international level, Friendship Day is a time to encourage peace and understanding between communities, countries, and cultures. At the national level, it’s a time to celebrate personal friendships.
No matter which day you choose, Friendship Day is an invitation to link up with friends and show that you care. In Bestieville, it’s celebrated every day!

How to Celebrate Friendship Day
Friendship Day is the perfect time to teach kids what it means to be a good friend.
Try talking about it openly! Ask your child what they think a friend is, listen carefully, then give them your definition. Use age-appropriate examples of what it means to have quality time, to trust, to listen, to show kindness, and to share.
While talking about friendship, consider asking your kiddo about their friends. Ask questions like, “what is your friend’s favorite color?” “What do you like about them?” And “what do you think they like about you?” This extra step can help reinforce your little one’s understanding of friendship and further the discussion.
Did you know? Dolls are great tools for teaching kids about friendship!
You can also put your words into action by celebrating your friendships. Invite some grown-up Besties over and be the friend you want your child to be. Show good friendship skills by sharing, listening, having great manners, and being positive—perhaps even sharing a gift!
