A Big Bestie Bakeoff

Hey, Bestie! It’s time for another adventure in the lovely town of Bestieville. In this story, our Hey Bestie dolls Emma & Camila participate in a bakeoff with their friends. They’re competing to see who can make the tastiest, most gorgeous dessert, but baking under pressure is no piece of cake! Who will get first prize? Let’s find out!

“What if we had a 7-layered cake?” asked Camila. “And we stuffed it with confetti sprinkles?”
Emma & Camila were at home, planning the next birthday bash. As party planners, they were always looking forward to the next big event. From birthdays to holidays, they loved to make everything special.
“I love that!” Emma gasped. “That way, when they slice it—”
Knock-knock-knock!
“Oh, someone’s at the door!” said Emma. “Who could it be?”
Besties Isa & Evie were there with their dogs, Chichi and Rocky. They were letting everyone know about their fundraiser!
“We’re raising funds for the animal shelter!” said Isa. “If we can get enough donations, we can renovate the dog kennels and get new blankets for all the animals.”
“I’m happy to donate!” said Emma.
“Yeah, no doubt about it!” said Camila. “Is there anything else we can do to help?”
“That’s very sweet of you,” said Evie. “You can help us spread the word! We’re headed to the park to tell all our Besties. Your help is just the icing on the cake.”
“Cake!” Emma’s eyes were wide as saucers. “I know what we could do. We could have a bake sale!”
“I love that,” Camila grinned, following her friends to the park.
Evie agreed. “A bake sale would really sweeten the deal! It might help us get more donations, too.”

“Did someone say bake sale? How about a bakeoff?!” Millie & Hannah were out for a walk when they overheard their friends. “I know an amazing cake recipe,” Millie teased.
“Sounds like you’re planning a baking contest,” said Mia, walking over with Zoe. “Bet you can’t bake cookies like ours!” It was like everyone in Bestieville wanted to bake.
Isa & Evie laughed. “Well, that does it, then!” Evie decided. “Let’s have a bakeoff, and all the treats you make will go to the bake sale. We’ll be the judges, and the winners will get—”
“Front row seats to the dog agility show!” said Isa. “The winner can watch Chichi & Rocko compete in the races. It’s super fun!”
“Sounds like a plan!” said Millie.
“It’s ON!” said Emma.

Besties Emma & Camila, Millie & Hannah, and Mia & Zoe raced from the park to the grocery store, where they collected ingredients for their bakeoff. About an hour later, with chocolates and goodies in hand, they made their way to the Hugs & Mugs Cafe. There, they would compete for the best bake sale dessert. Isa & Evie greeted them.

“You have one hour to create the most beautiful, most delicious dessert for the fundraiser bake sale,” said Isa. “And your time… starts… NOW!”
The contestants dashed to their baking stations. In a flash, they measured ingredients, sifting flour, cracking eggs, and spooning sugar. They prepped pie crust, they rolled dough, and they made magic while the clock tick-tick-ticked.
As Emma & Camila were hastily making a KeyLime pie, they realized that something was amiss. Camila found that the limes weren’t green. They were yellow!
“Hey Emma,” Camila started, holding a lemon in her hand. “Did you get us lemons or limes?”
“Oh, shoot!” cried Emma. “I must have grabbed lemons instead of limes. I always get those mixed up!”
“Don’t you know that KeyLime pie is green?” asked Camila. “Our recipe is for KeyLime pie, not lemon pie!”
“I’m sorry!” said Emma as she stirred a pot of filling.
Camila paused to take a breath. “It’s ok. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade! Our pie will just be lemon-flavored, instead.”
“Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy!” Emma winked.

Meanwhile, Millie & Hannah were frosting a cake in the shape of a dog.
“Isa and Evie are going to love this!” said Millie. “They love dogs!”
When—uh oh—the frosting wouldn’t set! Because the cake was still warm from the oven, the chocolate frosting melted off the cake, giving the dog a wonky look. The dog’s ears drooped, his shoulder sunk, and his eyes were a liiiitle lopsided!
“Oh nooo!” Hannah cried. “Our dog looks so silly!”
Millie glanced at the clock. “We’re running out of time!” she said as she spooned more frosting onto the cake.
Desperately trying to fix their cake, the Besties suddenly burst out laughing. There was no way their dog was going to look perfect.
“Aw, mutts! He’s falling apart!” Hannah giggled.

At the other end of the Hugs & Mugs Cafe, Mia & Zoe were baking chocolate chip cookies. After a few missteps, like using salt instead of sugar, they finished their dough and got the cookies in the oven.“Phew! Easy as pie,” said Mia, relieved. “Our cookies are simple, but they’re going to be dee-licious!”
They had enough time to clean their workstation while the others prepped their desserts, so the pair set to work washing and drying. Once they were done, Zoe sniffed the air. “Do you smell something?” She asked. Something wasn’t quite right. “How long have the cookies been in the oven?”
Mia froze. “I set a timer for 10 minutes!” she exclaimed. “Or I thought I did…”
The timer on the oven was off. There was no way to tell how long the cookies had been baking! Quickly, Mia & Zoe opened the oven and took the cookies out. They weren’t burnt, but they looked very crispy.
“We must have forgotten to set a timer with all the hustle and bustle of the bakeoff,” Zoe admitted.
“That’s just how the cookie crumbles, I guess!” said Zoe.

RRRIIING!
Within the blink of an eye, the Besties’ bakeoff was over. It was time to present their desserts to the judges, Isa & Evie. They would taste each one carefully, then decide which team would win front row seats to the dog show.
Standing in front of the desserts, Isa announced, “first up is Emma & Camila’s treat: KeyLime pie!”
She and Evie each took a bite of the smooth, yellow pie and savored it slowly. Quietly, they whispered to each other, then nodded their heads.
“Emma and Camila, your KeyLime pie is very good,” said Evie. “And very yellow!”
Emma & Camila gave each other a quick smile. A KeyLime pie can be yellow, right?
“Next up is Millie & Hannah’s chocolate doggie cake!” said Isa. Again, the girls each took a bite and quietly shared their thoughts.
“It’s very good,” Evie giggled. “And the dog looks… well loved!”
Besties Millie & Hannah stifled a laugh. So, their dog was a little melted, big deal!
“And, finally, Mia & Zoe’s chocolate chip cookies!” Isa smiled and took a bite.
“Your chewy chocolate chip cookies are… very crispy!” said Evie. “I love them!”
Crumbs fell all over the table beneath the judges as they chomped on the cookies. At this point, the Besties couldn’t hold it in anymore and all of them broke into laughter. None of the desserts were picture-perfect, but they were delicious—and made with love!

“The winners of the Bake Sale Bakeoff are… Emma & Camila!” Evie announced. “Congratulations on making such a tasty lemon—sorry—KeyLime pie!”
Everyone at the bakeoff clapped their hands and cheered for Emma & Camila, the party planners who loved a great dessert. In the afternoon, each team’s goodies sold like hot cakes at the dog show, flaws and all, and raised a record amount of funds for the animal shelter!
